Carney Fires Back at Trump Over Trade Tactics

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney fired back at the Trump administration over its trade tactics, saying they're more focused on 'doing memes' and being tough rather than serious negotiations. The U.S.-Canada trade talks collapsed in August after Washington imposed 50% tariffs on $20 billion in Canadian goods.

Carney said that when the Americans stop being 'tough' and start being serious, Canada will be willing to resume talks. He also accused the United States of pursuing terms that would leave Canadian industries effectively as subsidiaries or wiped out entirely.

The U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has claimed Canada cannot go 'tit for tat' due to its economy being 13 times larger than Canada's, but Carney pushed back against this notion.
