Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney is hosting an investment summit in Toronto this week to attract global investors and lure investments for over 160 projects. The goal is to steer Canada's economy through a trade war with the United States, which has imposed mounting tariffs on Canadian goods.

The confirmed attendees include BlackRock CEO Larry Fink, Blackstone President Jon Gray, and Singapore fund Temasek's CEO Dilhan Pillay. These investors will be matched with Canadian CEOs, companies, and local officials to facilitate investments or partnerships.

Carney has pledged to attract $721 billion in investments over the next five years by cutting red tape and developing mining, energy, technology, and infrastructure projects. The summit aims to match 100 global investors with Canadian companies, including a project for low-carbon nickel production and hyperscale data centers.

Canada's foreign direct investment flows have been steadily rising since 2022, but greenfield investments have not seen a significant bump. Economists are cautious about luring such investments in a mature economy like Canada's.
