Carney Names Dominic Barton Chair of Invest in Canada Ahead of Toronto Summit
Prime Minister Mark Carney has made significant changes to the leadership of Invest in Canada, a federal agency responsible for attracting foreign investment. As part of this overhaul, Dominic Barton will take on the role of chair of the board of directors for a three-year term on a part-time basis.
Barton is a well-known name in corporate Canada and has extensive experience with McKinsey and Co., where he spent much of his career. He also chairs mining giant Rio Tinto and LeapFrog Investments, and previously served as chair of the Liberal government's economic advisory council under Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
In this new role, Barton will help attract foreign direct investment to Canada, a key goal for the country's economy. He will be joined by Gurinder Grewal, who becomes chief executive of Invest in Canada and has experience with putting capital to work in various sectors. The shakeup comes just two weeks before Carney's inaugural investment summit in Toronto, where he'll assemble foreign investors and major domestic funds to pitch them on Canadian projects.
Carney praised Barton and Grewal for their expertise and commitment to helping Canada capitalize on its strengths with new investors. He emphasized that under their leadership, Invest in Canada will catalyze billions in new investments into Canada to build a stronger, more independent, more resilient economy.
