Carney Seeks to Lure Global Investors with Tax Incentives and Regulatory Streamlining
Mark Carney's investment summit in Toronto is an attempt to 'thread the needle' on trade with Asia and Europe, according to the Prime Minister. The event, which welcomed around 300 executives from some of the world's largest asset managers, aims to bring together capital, deals, projects, regulatory environment, tax advantages, and ambition to boost Canada's economy.
The summit is seen as a key opportunity for Canada to attract foreign investment and strengthen its relationships with European and Asian markets. 'There is a massive opportunity for Canada both in Europe and Asia,' said Carney, adding that the country has not yet realized its potential in these regions.
The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of building on Canada's reputation as a reliable and trustworthy partner. He noted that while the country has a free trade agreement with the EU, 'we are not fully utilizing it.'
