Carney Sees Trade War as Chance for Canada to Strengthen Economy
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney spoke at the Canada Investment Summit in Toronto on Tuesday, September 15, 2026. He expressed hope that the ongoing trade war with the United States will make Canada a stronger and more resilient economy.
Carney emphasized that Canada intends to emerge from the trade war as a better partner for the US, stating 'When those opportunities return, Canada will be an even better partner, stronger, more resilient, more independent.' He also highlighted that about 80% of trade with the US remains tariff-free.
The Prime Minister announced plans to seek private investment through long-term concessions to operate Canada's four largest airports. This move is expected to raise tens of billions of dollars for reinvesting in transportation and other infrastructure.
