Mark Carney has been serving as Canada's prime minister for nearly two years. He has managed to maintain popularity, particularly after the trade conflict with the US boosted his support among Canadians.

The country is currently involved in a tariff war with Donald Trump. Despite this, Carney claims that the economy is strong, job growth exceeds that of the US, and foreign investment is booming.

However, Statistics Canada reported earlier this year that Canada underperforms the US on key economic indicators such as labour productivity and per capita income. The C.D. Howe Institute pointed out that the new 'streamlined' regulatory system did not work for Saskatchewan-based potash giant Nutrien, which chose to build a new export terminal in the US due to onerous regulations.
