Carney's Trade Concessions to US Go Unreciprocated
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney is facing criticism for making major trade concessions to the United States without receiving reciprocal benefits. Over the past year, Ottawa has scrapped its Digital Services Tax and abandoned key financial requirements under the Online Streaming Act.
The government also agreed to share Gordie Howe International Bridge revenues with the U.S. and rolled back most retaliatory tariffs on American goods after evidence suggested they increased costs for Canadian consumers.
When asked by reporters what Canada had received in return for these concessions, Carney failed to identify a single reciprocal concession from Washington. Instead, he touted Canada's economy, job growth, and foreign investment.
