Central Banks' Caution Keeps Crypto Market Weak
The cryptocurrency market is showing weaker short-term appetite due to central bank decisions and the possibility of more aggressive monetary policy. Over the last few sessions, demand has been cautious, with a focus on inflation concerns and potential interest rate hikes.
Central banks such as the Bank of England, the Bank of Japan, and the Federal Reserve kept interest rates unchanged but hinted at the possibility of future adjustments to combat high inflation. The Federal Reserve's probability of a rate hike in September is around 65%, according to the CME Group, which could impact the cryptocurrency market.
Higher interest rates can increase borrowing costs, reduce liquidity, and support demand for stable markets, making it challenging for cryptocurrencies to gain traction. Bitcoin ETF flows have already shown signs of caution, with only a small inflow of $80 million on July 29.
The correlation between Bitcoin and traditional risk markets has also decreased, suggesting that equities are attracting more attention than cryptocurrencies. The Crypto Fear and Greed Index remains near 34 points, indicating fragile confidence in the market.
