Central Banks, Jobs Report, and Inflation Data Set to Shake Up Markets
Traders are bracing for a week of high-stakes events in financial markets as the summer lull comes to an end. Key central banks, including the Federal Reserve and Bank of Japan, will hold meetings that could shake up market sentiment.
The G20 meeting in North Carolina is already generating interest, particularly with Japanese Finance Minister attending alongside Bank of Japan Governor Kazuo Ueda, who was absent from Jackson Hole. The Fed's September meeting is also a key risk event, as investors await decisions on interest rates and inflation targeting.
Meanwhile, the US Treasury market will be under scrutiny as traders test Secretary Scott Bessent's resolve to limit rising borrowing costs. Gold has surged 13% in August, its biggest monthly jump since 1999, while Bitcoin has moved above $80,000.
The week ahead also features crucial economic data releases, including the US jobs report on Friday, which is expected to show a tepid 45,000 jobs added in August. The Reserve Bank of New Zealand will announce its policy decision on Wednesday, with a hike to 2.75% likely.
