Canada's finance minister, François-Philippe Champagne, has been touting the country's strengths in global trade, particularly its reputation for trust and reliability. Speaking to Alberta business leaders in Edmonton on September 9, he emphasized that Canada is viewed as a safe bet for stability and predictability when it comes to sourcing energy and critical minerals.

Champagne cited the recent G20 meetings in North Carolina as an opportunity to showcase Canada's advantages in trade. He noted that India's finance minister, Nirmala Sitharaman, spent three days in Canada last month discussing trade and ways to manage India's rapid economic growth.

The finance minister expressed confidence in Canada's position in the new global economic order, saying it is 'in a position of strength' due to its diverse economy and strong trade ties. He highlighted the country's fastest-growing economy among G7 countries during the second quarter this year, with a 3.3% growth rate.
