Chery Denies Government Subsidy Claims, Cites Inflation Concerns
Chery Australia's Chief Operating Officer Lucas Harris has dismissed accusations that the Chinese car brand is undercutting competitors due to government subsidies.
Harris noted that while prices have been stable over the past 15-20 years, inflation is currently 'out of control' and affecting the automotive industry as a whole.
'I think cars in Australia are still quite affordable generally across the board, particularly if you compare to most countries in Europe,' Harris said.
When asked about the possibility of government subsidies, Harris replied: 'You hear all of these accusations around dumping and government subsidies [and] I would love to see some actual evidence. I'd love a [Chinese] government subsidy, it would certainly help us out.'
