Chery Executive Hits Back at Subsidy Claims: 'I'd Love Government Help'
Chery Australia's Chief Operating Officer Lucas Harris has dismissed accusations that Chinese car brands are undercutting prices thanks to government subsidies.
Harris said if you account for inflation, Chery's prices are sustainable and comparable to other countries. He also stated that cars in Australia are still relatively affordable compared to most European countries.
However, Harris acknowledged that the current high inflation rate is a challenge for the industry.
He emphasized that technology is a significant factor driving sales of Chinese brands, with many customers seeking cutting-edge features and affordability.
Harris also pushed back against criticism that Chinese car brands are 'dumping' vehicles in Australia, saying it's unfair to make such accusations without evidence.
