China-Britain Services Trade and Investment Opportunities Soar
China's services trade has been growing rapidly, and British analysts see huge opportunities for expansion in both services trade and investment between China and Britain. The 2026 China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS) attracted a significant presence of multinational companies, with 473 being either Fortune Global 500 firms or industry leaders.
The fair highlighted China's commitment to a consumption- and services-driven growth model, as well as its openness to international investment. According to official data, China's trade in services totalled nearly 4.45 trillion yuan (about 663.3 billion U.S. dollars) during the first seven months of 2026, up 8.3 percent year on year.
British analysts believe that combining their strengths with China's will create significant opportunities for growth. John McLean, chairman of the China UK Business Development Centre, noted that Britain has advantages in fields like financial and professional services, life sciences, and creative industries, while China leads in digitization, advanced manufacturing, and rapid commercialization of technology.
The City of London Corporation (CLC) pointed out that Britain's financial expertise and China's large capital market offer huge complementarity, creating scope to expand cross-border investments in areas including legal and accounting services, asset management, and insurance.
