Christoph Ammann Named New President of Swiss National Bank's Bank Council
The Swiss government has announced Christoph Ammann as the new president of the Bank Council for the Swiss National Bank (SNB), effective May 1, 2027. He will succeed Barbara Janom Steiner, who has been in office since 2019 and is stepping down after reaching her maximum term.
Ammann has been a member of the SNB's Bank Council since 2019 and brings experience as the former Head of the Department of Economic Affairs, Energy and Environment of the Canton of Bern. The Bank Council oversees the conduct of business by the SNB, including compliance with legislation and regulations, but does not decide monetary policy.
