Christoph Ammann Named New President of Swiss National Bank's Bank Council
The Swiss Federal Council has announced that Christoph Ammann will become the new President of the Bank Council at the Swiss National Bank (SNB) in May 2027. Marc Mächler, currently a member of the Cantonal Government and Head of the Finance Department of the Canton of St Gallen, will take over as Vice President.
Christoph Ammann has been a member of the SNB's Bank Council since 2019 and previously served in various roles including as Head of the Department of Economic Affairs, Energy and Environment of the Canton of Berne. He brings extensive expertise in financial and economic policy to the position.
The appointment comes after Barbara Janom Steiner stepped down due to the statutory limit on her term of office. She has been a member of the Bank Council since 2015 and its President since 2019.
