CIBC Pledges $2 Billion to Boost Canadian Defence Sector
CIBC has committed $2 billion to help Canadian defence-related companies grow. This investment is part of CIBC's effort to support small and medium-sized businesses in the sector, which has become increasingly important for Canada's economy.
According to Susan Rimmer, CIBC's head of commercial banking, 'Canadian companies in the defence and resiliency ecosystem are poised to play a critical role in strengthening our economy, advancing innovation and enhancing national resilience.'
The $2-billion commitment reflects CIBC's confidence in Canadian businesses and its determination to help them access the financial support they need to scale and succeed. This is not the only recent initiative from major banks to support Canada's defence sector: Royal Bank of Canada announced a $1.4-billion investment in Canadian technology companies last week.
CIBC chief executive Harry Culham said the bank's $2-billion commitment 'reflects its determination to help Canadian businesses access the financial support they need to scale and succeed.'
