CNN Economist Swallows Fly During Live Interview on US Economy

CNN host Omar Jimenez was interviewing University of Michigan professor Justin Wolfers about the US economy on August 8. The discussion took an unexpected turn when Wolfers accidentally swallowed a fly on air.

The conversation was focused on the weak jobs report, which showed American employers shed 23,000 jobs in July, falling short of economists' forecast for a gain of 80,000. Wolfers described the labour market as 'remarkably resilient,' but suddenly began coughing and covering his mouth.

Jimenez kept the interview moving, allowing Wolfers to recover. When asked about the unexpected interruption, Wolfers joked that Aussies love eating flies and compared his predicament to Federal Reserve chair Kevin Warsh's reluctance to discuss the Fed's direction.
