Coinbase Axes Six Spot Pairs Amidst Ongoing Challenges for Altcoin Liquidity
Coinbase has announced that it will suspend trading for six spot pairs on August 6, 2024. The affected pairs are LSETH-$ETH, $MINA-EUR, $GRT-GBP, $MASK-GBP, $CHZ-$USDT, and $CRO-$USDT.
These pairs had already been placed in limit-only mode, indicating that their removal was imminent. The move is part of Coinbase's routine housekeeping to keep its order books lean and market depth concentrated.
The exchange periodically culls pairs that fail to attract meaningful activity, a practice known as low-volume delistings. While this may seem like a minor issue for traders, it can erode the accessibility of smaller cryptos in non-USD markets, particularly when euro and sterling pairs are removed.
