Collins Signals Support for Interest Rate Hike Amid Inflation Concerns
Boston Federal Reserve President Susan Collins has indicated she would be open to supporting an interest rate increase in September if inflation remains high. In an interview with the Financial Times, Collins stated that she sees a possibility of tighter economic conditions requiring higher rates and would be prepared to raise them accordingly.
Collins emphasized the struggles poorer Americans are facing as the Iran war has worsened cost-of-living strains, leading her to consider a rate hike. She noted, however, that she is not currently a voting member of the Federal Open Market Committee.
