Constantino Defends Trump's Trade War with Canada as Protective of North Country Businesses
Republican candidate Anthony Constantino defended President Donald Trump's trade war with Canada, saying it protects North Country businesses. The tariffs imposed on Canadian goods by President Trump will bring a higher price and greater uncertainty for farmers, small businesses, and families in the region, according to his opponent Democrat Blake Gendebien.
Constantino owns Sticker Mule in Amsterdam and stated that Canada's trade policies lock out American dairy products and impose a 'near-total ban' on alcoholic beverages. He argued that these restrictions are devastating for many employers in the North Country district, which includes Rome and the northern half of Oneida County.
According to Constantino, President Trump is doing everything in his power to balance the scales and secure a fair deal for the American people. He criticized Canada's trade policies with the United States, claiming that they 'harm our economy and businesses' and harm American workers. The US had a $48.3 billion trade deficit with Canada for goods in 2025.
Constantino expressed his support for President Trump's negotiation style, stating that he is 'the greatest negotiator on the planet.' He also claimed that President Trump has driven the largest economic revitalization in history.
