Cook Fires Back Against Trump's Latest Attempt to Oust Her from Fed

Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook has formally pushed back against President Trump's renewed effort to remove her from the central bank. Her legal team delivered a five-page rebuttal to the White House, stating that mortgage fraud allegations against her 'remain unfounded and untrue.'

The dispute traces back to August 2025, when Trump first moved to fire Cook after Federal Housing Finance Agency Director Bill Pulte sent a criminal referral to the Department of Justice. Cook denied wrongdoing and filed a lawsuit challenging her removal.

Cook's term on the board runs until January 2038, but her case is not just about her own future at the Fed. It's also about the independence of the central bank and whether it will be guided by 'evidence and independent judgment' or 'succumb to political pressure.'
