Cook Fires Back at White House Over Renewed Removal Threats

Cook was initially targeted for removal last year by then-President Trump over accusations of committing mortgage fraud, which she denies. The charge has not been proven or considered in court and is currently being litigated. In 2025, the Supreme Court ruled that Cook could remain in her position while the case is resolved.
The justices also clarified that Trump could try to fire Cook again if he provided proper notice and a chance for her to contest it. However, Cook's latest letter emphasizes that the current administration lacks the necessary legal grounds to terminate her appointment at this time.
