Cook Resists Trump's Bid to Oust Her From Fed Governors Board
Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook is fighting back against President Donald Trump's attempt to fire her. In a letter sent by attorneys Abbe Lowell and Norm Eisen, they argue that Trump has 'no legal basis' to remove Cook from her position.
The grounds for Trump's attempted removal are based on an accusation of mortgage fraud, which Cook claims was an error in listing a property as a vacation home. Her attorneys point out that this mistake is not uncommon and even Trump himself has been accused of doing the same thing.
Cook's lawsuit against the Trump administration last year resulted in a Supreme Court ruling that blocked Trump from removing her without due process. This time around, Dan Scavino, White House deputy chief of staff, wrote a letter to the court asking for permission to dismiss Cook again.
