Cost of Living Concerns Top Iran War for Americans

A new poll released by Marquette University Law School reveals that cost of living and inflation are now the top concerns for American adults, surpassing even the ongoing Iran war. According to the survey, a staggering 35% of respondents cited cost of living and inflation as their most pressing issue, with the economy coming in second at 15%. The poll also showed that the Iran conflict has lost significant ground on Americans' radar, dropping to its lowest point since it began being surveyed three months ago.

Since January, cost of living and inflation have consistently ranked high among American concerns, with 56% of respondents either naming them as their top issue or second most important concern. This trend is particularly notable given that annual inflation has dipped slightly from 4.1% in May to 3.7% in June, according to the personal consumption expenditure (PCE) price index reported by the Bureau of Economic Analysis.

The Federal Reserve's decision to leave its benchmark interest rate unchanged for the fifth straight meeting has sparked some debate among regional Fed presidents, with three dissenting voices arguing that rates should be raised to combat elevated inflation. Meanwhile, only 28% of Americans describe the nation's economy as being in an excellent or good state.

Furthermore, a significant majority of respondents - 88%, up from 81% last month - believe that the U.S. has not achieved its goals in the Iran war, with 75% thinking that it is not worth the cost. This sentiment comes at a time when new defense contracts have been announced to expand production of missile interceptor components used primarily in Iran.
