Counterfeit Cash Scams Hit Chipping Norton

Police in Chipping Norton are warning residents to be cautious of counterfeit cash scams after two incidents involving high-value items.

The incidents involved sellers being paid with fake £20 polymer notes featuring King Charles III, prompting officers to issue advice on safe transactions.

PCSO Wesley Smith advised: 'If you believe you have been given counterfeit bank notes, do not attempt to spend them. Contact Report Fraud on 0300 123 2040 and report the incident, providing as much information as possible about the buyer, any vehicle used, and where and when the sale took place.'

The counterfeit notes had raised vertical holographic security strips, whereas genuine Bank of England polymer notes have a smooth strip. The majority of the fake notes also shared the same serial number, which is not the case with real banknotes.
