Counterfeit Currency Probe in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State

Police in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State are investigating a man accused of possessing counterfeit US dollar banknotes. The suspect, Akol Mou Wol, was arrested on July 14 after allegedly being found with $300 worth of fake currency.

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is leading the investigation to determine how Wol obtained the notes and whether others were involved. The suspected counterfeit money has been sent to Wau for verification as part of the inquiry.

Northern Bahr el Ghazal police spokesperson Lt. Col. Madut Ngong Aleu said that once investigators complete their inquiries, the suspect will be brought before court. According to lawyer Garang Akok, South Sudan's Penal Code Act, 2008, criminalizes the possession, use and circulation of counterfeit currency.
