Cramer Warns of Potential Market Turbulence Amid Rising Oil Prices and Hawkish Fed Stance

Financial markets are exhibiting eerie similarities to those in 2018, according to Jim Cramer. The CNBC host pointed out that both periods fall within the second year of a Trump term and saw significant stock rallies. Oil prices and Treasury yields have also increased, with inflation sitting above the Federal Reserve's target.

Back in 2018, stocks declined by around 20% between September and Christmas Eve due to a hawkish stance from then-Fed Chair Jerome Powell. However, Powell subsequently cut interest rates three times, leading to a recovery and ending the year with a nearly 30% gain for the S&P 500.

Today's Fed Chair Kevin Warsh faces pressure to hike rates, with oil near $100 per barrel and the 10-year Treasury yield approaching 5%. Market participants are pricing in around 90% odds of a rate increase at this month's Fed meeting.

Cramer advises investors not to sell their holdings entirely but rather trim winning positions and hold more cash. He believes his Charitable Trust is adequately prepared for potential market fluctuations, with a higher-than-usual cash allocation allowing him to invest in quality stocks if prices drop.
