Credit Agricole Caps Employee Share Plan Orders Amid Record Demand
Credit Agricole's employee share plan has seen unprecedented demand, forcing the French bank to cap large orders. The plan drew in over 53,000 current and retired staff, who sought to buy more than the 32 million new shares authorized by the board.
The subscription window ran from June 24 to July 8, 2026, and offered a 20% discount on the reference share price. The overwhelming response meant that the largest individual orders had to be scaled back to keep the total issuance within the board-mandated limit.
Credit Agricole plans to issue and deliver the new shares on August 27, followed by a share buyback program designed to neutralize the dilutive effect of the capital increase. This remains subject to approval from the European Central Bank.
