Crypto Markets on High Alert Ahead of Key Central Bank Decisions
Crypto markets are bracing for potential volatility ahead of key central bank decisions in the coming days, with analysts warning that even an expected interest rate hike by the Federal Reserve could pressure Bitcoin.
Nicolai Søndergaard, senior research analyst at Nansen, said investors have adopted a cautious position before the Fed's September 16 policy decision, with many waiting for guidance from central banks rather than rushing to exit the market completely. This caution is evident in the current trading range, where Bitcoin has been holding near $77,000, with support at around $76,000 and resistance at approximately $83,000.
Bitfinex analysts have also identified a similar trading range, expecting the Fed decision to produce enough volatility for Bitcoin to test liquidity near both $82,000 and $76,000. Market caution has also appeared in U.S.-listed investment products, with U.S. spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds posting roughly $463 million in net outflows last week.
ViaBTC chief analyst Jeff Ko said the expected rate increase by the Fed is likely priced into the market, leaving the policy statement and economic projections as the main sources of risk. He also tied the change in rate expectations to last week's U.S. consumer price index report, which showed a 0.4% monthly rise in headline CPI and a 2.4% annual rate.
