Crypto Usage Hits Three-Year High Among US Adults
A new report from the Federal Reserve shows that 10% of US adults used or invested in cryptocurrency in 2025, marking the highest level since 2021. This figure rose from lower readings in both 2023 and 2024. The majority of those who used crypto held it as an investment, while a smaller percentage used it for payments or to transfer money.
Among unbanked Americans, crypto usage was higher, with 6% using it for transactions compared to 2% of those with bank accounts. About 6% of US adults were unbanked in 2025. Some businesses preferred crypto payments due to advantages such as speed and lower costs.
The report's publication coincided with a transition at the central bank, as Jerome Powell's term as Federal Reserve chair ended on May 15. Kevin Warsh was confirmed as his replacement on May 13, and has previously expressed positive views on Bitcoin.
