Cuban Informal Market Sees Declines in Dollar and Euro on August 10
The informal foreign exchange market in Cuba has seen declines in major currencies at the close of Monday, August 10. The US dollar closed at 670 Cuban pesos (CUP), a decline of 2.5 CUP from the previous day's rate of 673 CUP. This represents a weekly loss of 2.5 CUP (-0.4%) and a monthly gain of 10 CUP compared to 30 days ago.
The euro also saw a drop, trading at 773 CUP, down 5 CUP from the previous day's rate of 778 CUP. Over the weekly horizon, the euro has declined by 12.5 CUP (-1.6%) and gained 22.5 CUP compared to 30 days ago.
The MLC (Moneda Libremente Convertible) ended the day around 423 CUP, although this figure is considered indicative due to the limited sample available. The official exchange rate of the Central Bank of Cuba remains significantly lower than the values in the informal market, reflecting the persistent shortage of foreign currency.
