Cuban Informal Market Sees Dollar Decline, Euro Stability
The informal currency market in Cuba has closed its session for Thursday, July 23, 2026. The United States dollar experienced a slight decline in value, closing at an average of 670 Cuban pesos (CUP), with a buy price of 665 CUP and a sale price of 675 CUP.
This represents a decrease of 1 peso compared to the previous day's average of 671 CUP. However, on a weekly basis, the dollar has gained 15 pesos from its average value seven days ago, which is an increase of 2.3%.
The euro remained stable, closing with no variations compared to the previous day at an average value of 778 Cuban pesos (CUP), buying at 770 CUP and selling at 786 CUP. The euro has gained 23 pesos since its weekly average seven days ago, representing a 3% increase.
The demand for dollars remains high among those looking to protect their savings against the depreciation of the peso. The official exchange rate of the Central Bank of Cuba (Segment III) remains well below the values that govern daily practices in the informal currency market, reflecting the persistent shortage of foreign currency in the state banking system.
