Cuba's Informal Market Sees Dollar and Euro Values Decline
The informal currency market in Cuba is showing signs of adjustment on Wednesday, August 12. The dollar's value has declined to 665 Cuban pesos (CUP) with a buying price of 660 CUP and a selling price of 670 CUP. This represents a drop of 3 pesos compared to the previous day.
The euro is also experiencing a decline, quoted at 760 CUP with a buying range at 750 CUP and selling at 770 CUP. The decrease from the previous session is 8 pesos, down from the 768 CUP recorded yesterday.
The difference between the official exchange rate and the informal market's rates remains significant, with the dollar exceeding 40 pesos in value disparity. For the euro, this gap is also around 40 pesos. The disconnect between the formal economy and everyday reality for Cubans is evident in these numbers.
