Currency Swings Cut Dollar Equivalent of Investor-Residency Routes by Up to $60,600
A recent currency swing has caused significant fluctuations in the dollar equivalent of some investor-residency programs. According to Movingto, this change affects several countries, including Portugal and Greece.
At the January benchmark, an investment of 500,000 euros translated to about $586,050. However, at the latest available benchmark, the same euro amount translated to $570,900, resulting in a difference of $15,150.
This variation is due to the European Central Bank's reference rate, which moved from $1.1721 per euro on January 2 to $1.1418 on July 21, representing a 2.6% decline.
The dollar effect scales directly with the euro amount. For instance, at 250,000 euros, the difference was $7,575; at 800,000 euros, it was $24,240; and at 2 million euros, it reached $60,600.
