Cyber Resilience Critical in Mitigating Australia's Growing Cyber Threats
Cyber threats are becoming increasingly sophisticated and difficult to attribute in Australia's defence networks, critical infrastructure, and broader economy, according to Glenn Maiden, chief security officer and director of threat intelligence for Australia and New Zealand at Fortinet.
The cyber threat landscape is blurring the lines between state-sponsored actors, cyber criminals, and issue-motivated groups, making it challenging for Defence to prevent compromise. Instead, the challenge lies in building systems that can withstand inevitable attacks.
Maiden emphasizes the importance of cyber resilience as an architectural priority rather than a reactive response. He suggests implementing strong security controls, multifactor authentication, password management, robust back-ups, and resilient infrastructure to reduce the impact of an attack.
