Czech Minister Stands Firm on Koruna, Touts Retirement Savings Plan
Czech Finance Minister Alena Schillerová spoke at the Czech-Slovak Diplomatic Evening about the benefits of maintaining the koruna as the national currency. She argued that adopting the euro would lead to a loss of independent monetary policy and increased difficulty in dealing with inflation.
Schillerová also highlighted the advantages of having an own currency, citing examples from other countries such as Croatia where prices rose after adopting the euro. She emphasized that economic strength is more important than the currency used for influence in Brussels.
The Minister also discussed the government's initiatives to reduce taxes and make retirement savings more attractive, including the 'Better Pension Savings' scheme which will provide an additional one million koruna for the average saver by 2027.
