Danish Consumer Confidence Inches Up, Still in Negative Territory

Danish households are gradually adjusting to the 'new normal' of higher prices and borrowing costs, according to data from Statistics Denmark. The country's consumer confidence index rose to -13.1 in August, up from a revised -14.7 in July.

The improvement, while modest, signals a slight easing in household pessimism as inflation pressures show tentative signs of cooling. Consumer confidence is a closely watched leading indicator for private consumption, which accounts for roughly half of Denmark's GDP.

The Danish reading of -13.1 is broadly in line with the eurozone average, but weaker than in Sweden and stronger than in Germany. Economists caution against overinterpreting a single month's improvement, as the trajectory of consumer confidence will depend heavily on the European Central Bank's next policy moves.
