Delaware Joins Coalition Challenging Trump Administration's Latest Tariffs

Delaware Attorney General Kathy Jennings has joined a coalition of attorneys general in filing a lawsuit against the Trump administration's latest tariffs on over 80 countries. The lawsuit, titled State of Oregon, et al. v. Trump, et al., challenges the administration's decision to increase tariffs on countries that account for 99.4% of all U.S. imports.

The complaint alleges that the administration's actions exceed its legal authority and violate the Administrative Procedure Act. This is not the first time the administration has faced a lawsuit over its tariff policies - in February, the Supreme Court rejected the use of the International Emergency Economic Powers Act to impose tariffs, and in May, the U.S. Court of International Trade ruled that tariffs imposed under Section 122 of the Trade Act of 1974 were unlawful.

The latest tariffs were imposed after an investigation by the United States Trade Representative found that the European Union and 59 other countries had engaged in unfair trade practices. However, researchers at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York have concluded that nearly 90% of the costs of these tariffs will be paid by American consumers and businesses.
