Digital Euro Accessibility Features Revealed by ECB
The European Central Bank (ECB) has outlined its plans for the digital euro's accessibility features, aiming to make it inclusive for all citizens. According to the ECB, user inclusion and accessibility are fundamental principles in developing the digital euro.
The proposed features exceed the requirements of the European Accessibility Act and relevant European standards. These include improved visualization, support for screen readers, full keyboard navigation, warnings before action timeouts, simplified language, error prevention mechanisms, and reduced motion animations.
ECB Executive Board Member Piero Cipollone emphasized that the digital euro will be a public good, accessible to every European on equal terms. The features were developed in cooperation with consumer organizations, accessibility experts, and national central banks.
