Digital Euro Aims for Universal Accessibility
The European Central Bank (ECB) is developing a digital euro application that aims to be accessible and inclusive for all Europeans, regardless of their disabilities. The ECB has stated that the digital euro will be a public good, available under equal conditions to every European.
Piero Cipollone, a member of the ECB's Executive Board, emphasized the importance of accessibility in the digital euro application. He noted that the features included in the app, such as screen reader compatibility and simplified language, demonstrate the ECB's commitment to creating a payment solution that works for everyone.
The developers are working closely with consumer organizations, accessibility experts, and national central banks to ensure that all users can use the digital euro application without barriers. The digital euro pilot project is scheduled to be tested next year, and the accessible features will be a key aspect of its design.
