JP Morgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon has warned that the US dollar's status as the world's leading reserve currency is at risk if the United States fails to maintain its economic and military supremacy. In a recent interview, Dimon stated, 'If we don't have the strongest military and the strongest economy in 25 years, we will not be the reserve currency.' He added that a fragmented global financial system would be 'very dangerous for us.'

The dollar currently holds approximately 57% of worldwide foreign exchange reserves, down from about 70% at the turn of the millennium. However, despite concerns over the potential impact of financial sanctions on the dollar's status, research by the Federal Reserve has found no significant decline in dollar holdings since 2022.

Dimon also criticized the US dependence on China for essential raw materials and products, saying that 'we should have realized 10 or 15 years ago' that this was a problem. He emphasized the need for the US to strengthen its industries critical to national security, including those related to energy, defense, and advanced manufacturing.

JPMorgan Chase has launched a $1.5 trillion Security and Resiliency Initiative aimed at addressing these weaknesses over the next 10 years. Dimon's warning comes as the global financial system faces increasing fragmentation and ongoing questions about the dollar's dominance.
