Dollar and Euro Soar in Cuba's Informal Currency Market
The informal currency market in Cuba experienced a significant surge this Friday, September 4, 2026. Both the U.S. dollar and euro saw increased values compared to the previous day, with the dollar trading at an average of 683 Cuban pesos (CUP) and the euro at 774 CUP.
The U.S. dollar has risen by 10 pesos over the past week, reflecting a 1.5% increase from its value last week. The demand for dollars remains strong among those seeking to protect their savings from the peso's depreciation.
The euro also gained momentum this week, increasing by 16 pesos (2.1%) since last week and currently trading at an average of 774 CUP. However, it has declined slightly compared to a month ago due to adjustments in exchange rate methodology.
