Dollar and Euro Soar on Black Market as Cuban Inflation Bites
The informal currency market in Cuba has seen significant gains for both the US dollar and euro at the end of Friday, August 28, 2026. The US dollar rose to an average value of 673 Cuban pesos (CUP), increasing by 2.5 pesos from the previous day's closing price of 670 CUP. This marks a 1.5% rise in the dollar over the past week, which has gained 10 pesos from 663 CUP.
The euro also experienced an increase, reaching 758 CUP at the end of Friday, up by 1.5 pesos from the previous session's 756 CUP. This European currency has risen by 9.5 pesos from 748 CUP over the past week, a 1.3% increase.
The MLC, or Moneda Libremente Convertible, which is used in state-run stores and lacks physical currency form, closed around an average value of 470 CUP, though this figure is only indicative due to limited closing data for this currency.
