Dollar Crumbles as Yen Strengthens Amid Warning Signs
The US dollar index fell to around 98.6 on Wednesday, marking its third consecutive day of decline and reaching its weakest level in four months.
This downturn can be attributed mainly to the rapid rise of the yen, which has been gaining strength in recent times.
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent weighed in on the situation, warning traders against betting against the currency. He claimed he has 'pretty good insight' into the Bank of Japan's actions and said he intervenes with the yen when making calls.
The market is also bracing for key US inflation readings this week, which could provide further clues about the Federal Reserve's policy outlook ahead of next week's meeting. Investors are currently pricing in a 60% chance of a 25-basis-point Fed rate hike following stronger-than-expected jobs data released last Friday.
