The US dollar fell to a 155 yen range on Friday morning in Tokyo, driven by speculation that the gap between Japanese and US interest rates will narrow.

The dollar dropped to 155.29 yen at one point, down from 155.75-85 yen in New York and 157.03-06 yen in Tokyo at 5 p.m. on Thursday.

The euro was also affected, trading at $1.1627-1628 and 181.47-48 yen against $1.1621-1631 and 181.06-16 yen in New York and $1.1603-1605 and 182.22-26 yen in Tokyo late Thursday afternoon.

The dollar's decline was sparked by comments from Federal Reserve Governor Christopher Waller, who suggested holding interest rates steady if future data confirm a slowdown in inflation.
