Dollar Edges Higher Amid Iran Deal Uncertainty and Payrolls Jitters
The U.S. dollar edged higher on Friday as investors sought safe-haven assets amid uncertainty over a potential U.S.-Iran deal and ahead of the July nonfarm payrolls report.
Asian currencies traded in tight ranges, with the yen hovering near 158.4 per dollar after surrendering some gains from last week's joint intervention by the U.S. and Japan.
The euro, sterling, and Australian dollar were little changed, while oil prices extended gains, reviving inflation worries.
Currency markets are focused on the payrolls data, which is expected to show an 80,000-job increase, and whether the proposed Iran-Oman accord will grant Tehran control over Strait of Hormuz traffic.
