Dollar Equivalent of Investor-Residency Routes Swings by Up to $60,600
Currency fluctuations have significantly impacted the dollar equivalent of some investor-residency routes, reducing their value by up to $60,600. This is according to Movingto, which analyzed the effect of a 2.6% decline in the European Central Bank's reference rate on several programs.
The study found that at the January benchmark, an investment of 500,000 euros translated to about $586,050. By the latest available benchmark, the same euro amount was worth $570,900, resulting in a difference of $15,150.
Italy's government-bond route experienced the largest dollar figure difference, with a 2 million euro commitment translating to about $2.34 million at the January benchmark and $2.28 million at the July benchmark, resulting in a $60,600 difference.
The UAE's Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security lists a minimum of 2 million dirhams for Golden Residency investors in public investments or real estate. This threshold was about $544,600 on both comparison dates, making it highly stable due to the Central Bank of the UAE's peg.
It is essential to note that the figures captured only one part of an investor's budget and excluded application charges, residence-permit fees, lawyers' fees, property taxes, fund fees, and due-diligence costs. The practical step for applicants is to keep the official threshold in its local currency and reprice the full transaction in the currency that will fund it.
