Dollar Fails to Gain as Global Yields Rise Synchronously
The U.S. Dollar Index (DXY) remained largely unchanged despite long-term Treasury yields reaching their highest levels in nearly two decades.
Despite a significant increase in yields, particularly for 30-year Treasury bonds, which climbed to near 5.3%, the dollar failed to experience a corresponding boost.
The synchronized rise in global long-end yields, including Japan's 10-year government bond yield hitting a three-decade high and Germany's 30-year bond yield reaching its strongest level since 2011, eliminated any interest rate differential advantage for the U.S. dollar.
Policy expectations that previously supported the dollar are now turning downward, with implied probabilities from interest rate futures indicating a reduced chance of rate hikes in the near future.
