Dollar Hits New Record in Baghdad and Basra as Cash Demand Rises
The value of the US dollar has increased to 157,000 Iraqi dinars in Baghdad and Basra on Sunday, September 13, 2026. This marks a further rise in parallel market exchange rates across Iraq's primary commercial centers.
In Baghdad, wholesale and retail bureaus quoted the greenback at a selling price of 157,000 dinars against a buying rate of 156,500 dinars for every $100. The same figures were recorded in Basra, with merchant demand holding firm across both cities.
The Central Bank of Iraq's official statutory peg is currently set at 131,000 dinars per $100, reflecting persistent cash demand across wholesale trading floors and merchant counters.
