The US dollar held steady on Thursday ahead of the Jackson Hole symposium, while the yen remained unchanged after BOJ Deputy Governor Ryozo Himino's comments.

Himino expressed concern about inflation risks but stopped short of explicitly signaling a rate hike next month. Market participants were looking for clues on the likelihood of a September rate hike and the scale of further tightening.

The euro rose 0.05% against the dollar to $1.1655, while the Australian dollar strengthened 0.18% versus the greenback to $0.718.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against a basket of currencies including the yen and the euro, was steady at 99.13 after paring gains from an eight-day high.
